It’s official: cool weather is here to stay. Right now, gathering outdoors is one of the safest ways to see people outside of your household. While stores already have their holiday decorations out, there are lots of fall activities still going strong. Now is the perfect time to gather your coworkers together for some team bonding before we hunker down for winter!
1. Have a Spooktacular Halloween
It’s not too late to celebrate Halloween! Virtual happy hours and competitions lend themselves well to last-minute plans. Encourage everyone on the team to share their costumes, carved pumpkins, or household decorations on a dedicated Slack channel for some friendly competition. Or, gather everyone on video chat and tell them to bring their spookiest cocktail creation for a festive happy hour. Celebrating holidays does not have to be an elaborate affair- it can merely be an excuse to bring the team together!
2. Out in Nature
Breathe in some fresh air before it gets frigid! Go for a hike in Rock Creek Park or Great Falls to see some bright fall foliage colors (plus the routes are easy for novices). Head out of the office early on a weekday to take advantage of smaller crowds at local farms like Butler’s Orchard. Take a tractor ride, go apple picking, and enjoy other fall treats such as apple cider donuts. For a more adventurous crew, take on a corn maze or even head out to a ropes course for some serious team bonding and trust-building activities.
3. Giving Thanks
After Halloween, we launch into the season of giving thanks. This November, bring your team together to give back to your community. Spend an afternoon volunteering in a meaningful way. Pick up a local park, prepare meals for those who are hungry, assemble toiletry bags to be handed out- there are endless possibilities. Giving back can also be done safely, with team members masked up and keeping distance while working.
In the spirit of giving thanks, don’t forget to be thankful for each other! Celebrate your team this fall by having a “teamsgiving” dinner honoring the work you all do together. This event can be done virtually or in-person and provides a platform for coworkers to connect and chat about key wins over the past year.
