3 Healthy and Safe Ways To See Your Coworkers

For some of us, it has been months since we have gathered with coworkers. Those interactions, from organized team bonding to lunchtime conversations, have been sorely missed. While remote work or being back in socially distanced offices has its perks, nothing can replace hanging out with the team. This fall, take advantage of the remaining warm weather to gather and reconnect with colleagues. Here are three ways to see each other in a safe and distanced manner!

1. Support Local Businesses

Take the team to support local small businesses. Going out to eat is an easy way to patronize places while reconnecting. Keep in mind that depending on the size of your team, you may have to sit at separate tables. To be able to sit together, take food to go, and set up in someone’s backyard or in a park to catch up. Hanging outdoors in a large space is one of the safest ways to be together. Everyone can bring their own chair and utensils to easily stay distanced. Plus, a perk of picnicking is that everyone can bring their pets to show off! Dogs, coworkers, good food, and supporting local restaurants- what could be better?

2. Get Active

An outdoor, active gathering provides an activity for everyone to do while still being safe. Head to a local trail for an easy hike or bike ride, or go to a park and do a low-impact nature walk. Other ways to get active with your team include horseback riding, ziplining, or doing a workout class. Fall is the perfect time of year to soak up the outdoors in the DMV area. The weather has cooled, but it is still warm enough to only need a light jacket. Before chilly temperatures befall the region, plan an outdoor activity in the District, such as a walk through Rock Creek Park, or hit the road and explore state parks or even make the ride to Shenandoah for an all-day excursion.

3. Re-create Rituals

Miss chatting with the team over coffee in the morning? Or sitting down for lunch together? Re-create those moments virtually. Set up recurring calendar invites solely designated to promote those connections, such as “watercooler time” mid-morning or “weekend coffee catch-up” on Mondays. These drop-in hangouts are a low-key way to bring people together without planning a full-on event.

If you want to move beyond the computer screen, AdvantEdge Workspaces provides a clean, safe office environment for your coworkers to gather in.
