3 Ways To Celebrate Cherry Blossom Season

A major perk of living and working in the D.C. area is the National Cherry Blossom festival. Each spring, we track peak bloom and enjoy the beautiful trees not only around the Tidal Basin, but all over the city. As an essential sign of spring for every Washingtonian, here is how you can celebrate this season, especially at work.

1. Blossom Viewing

The best way to enjoy the Cherry Blossoms is to actually see them! For DMV area residents, it can be challenging to reconcile the tourists with a desire to see the blooms. Avoid the crowds by heading down on a weekday. Rally your coworkers to Metro, take the bus, or bike downtown to admire the scenes without battling for a view. It’s a great way to take a break, enjoy nature, and have quality time together outside of the office.

If mobilizing downtown is a little too challenging, organize a nature walk in your neighborhood to take in locally planted trees. While the scenes might not be as dramatic, it is still lovely to see the blooms on the streets you visit every day.

2. Festive Pop-Ups

D.C. is buzzing with cherry blossom-themed events this time of year. There are multiple bars decked out for the season. Arrange a happy hour and indulge in some Japanese-inspired cocktails. Overall, countless events are going on from now through the beginning of April. There is something for everyone! Find an existing event to attend here or plan something yourself using the blossoms as a theme.

3. Embrace the Season

Cherry blossoms are not only beautiful, but they symbolize renewal. Embrace the meaning of these trees and use this time of year to reset. Spend time spring cleaning, assess the status of your resolutions, try something new, or do something meaningful for yourself.
