5 New Year's Resolutions for Work

It’s the second week of January, which means there is still time to set your resolutions for the New Year. Take time this week to think about bettering yourself in your career, as a manager, and as an employee. How can you make 2021 the best year yet at work? We have five resolution thought starters to help you manifest a productive, exciting, and meaningful year at the office.

Improve Online Presence

2020 showed us how crucial an online presence is to the survival of any business or personal career. This year, work to build up your portfolio on the web. Personally, this could mean creating a website or optimizing a LinkedIn page. Professionally, ensure your business is on all relevant social media platforms, posts consistently, and has an aesthetically-pleasing website with up-to-date information.

Make New Connections

During these socially distanced times, it can be hard to comprehend expanding your professional network. However, with industry events and mixers online, there is no excuse to not make a new connection this year! Attending a virtual event is a great way to put yourself out there and practice online communication. You can always turn off your camera if it is not your cup of tea, or you may end up with a new valuable contact!

Celebrate Team Success

Make 2021 the year that your team comes together more often to celebrate wins. It can be easy to get in the swing of work and forget about the little things that make a big difference. Virtual happy hours, expanding bonus pools, or even just taking time on team calls to call out successes- all of these efforts go a long way in showing other people that you care!

Better Work/Life Balance

Managing a better work/life balance is likely on everyone’s resolution list each year. With many still working from home, it can feel impossible to find any sense of separation. However, there are some easy changes to make that can impact your lifestyle. Utilize away messages even if you are only stepping offline for an hour- it will signal to everyone that they can expect a delayed response, and will have you checking your phone less. You can also implement new productivity hacks to ensure work doesn’t spill over the 9-5 hours. Even just being more conscious of your time and present in your downtime can help you balance work and personal life.

Get The Most Out of The Office

Life is too short to be sitting in an uncomfortable chair in a stuffy space! What do you need out of an office space experience? Let 2021 be the year that you find a space that fits your needs. Ditch the home office (aka the kitchen table) and try out coworking, or take a meeting in a fully-equipped conference space. Shared office space like AdvantEdge will work with you to ensure you get the most out of your experience- whether that is admin assistance or stocking your favorite coffee pods.
