5 Ways to Celebrate the Holidays in a Shared Workspace

12.17.19

With a week left until the holidays, there is still time to celebrate the season at work! Even though shared workspaces have their events, kick the festivities up a notch with these five easy ways to make the most of the holidays at work. Requiring little prep but packing a big punch, we have you covered- whether you want to engage within your own company, bond with fellow remote workers, or celebrate with your workspace neighbor!

1. Give Back

Amidst all the gift buying, it’s important to remember to contribute to your community this season. Remove the “I don’t have time” excuse by bringing your office together to support a worthy cause during the workday! Most shared workspaces already give back during the holiday, such as AdvantEdge’s Toys for Tots drive, but there is no such thing as too much giving! Make food for a homeless shelter, organize a clothing drive, deliver meals to the elderly, write cards to those serving overseas- the possibilities are endless. Reach out to local organizations directly to see what they might still need this year!

2. Party On

It isn’t the holidays without a party! Most shared workspaces hold parties for clients, which is a great way to mix and mingle. But more parties never hurt anybody, so throw together a last-minute gathering! It can be as simple as a potluck, pizza party, or cookie swap. Try out a new grouping, such as all the people who work solo in your space, all the lawyers, non-profits, etc. You never know who you may meet over some eggnog!

3. Stay Small

A hot cocoa bar is a fun and festive way to bring people together!

Holiday celebrations don’t have to be a big to-do. Simply inviting others to grab a seasonal beverage at your local coffee shop is a great way to make the day special! Got an extra hour-ish to spare? Get a group of coworkers in a Yankee Swap or Secret Santa gift exchange. It’s fun to shop for others and seeing the reveals always brings laughter!

4. Be Mindful of Others

Let’s be honest- the "holiday season" refers to traditional Christmas celebrations. However, in a typical workspace there will be many people who have very different traditions, don't like the season, or simply do not observe Christmas. When crafting celebrations, be sure to include everyone’s idea of what the holidays mean, from incorporating other culture's celebrations to bringing Hanukkah into the mix.

While for many it’s the most wonderful time of the year, others struggle with negative feelings that the season brings. Never pressure anyone to participate in activities, and be open and curious about everyone’s traditions and other holidays.

5. Spruce Up Your Surroundings

In a shared workspace, the common areas will be decorated for you, but you can also make your desk or private space full of holiday cheer. For decor that is festive yet professional, add in a poinsettia or hang up a trendy wreath. If lights won’t bother others, add a strand around the edges of your desk or monitor. You can also spring for a mini tree and invite others to help you decorate!

In a shared workspace, it’s always the most wonderful time of the year (although we admit December always feels more special)! AdvantEdge Workspaces loves brining our diverse clientele together to celebrate in a variety of ways From parties to holiday breakfasts to giving back to our local D.C. community, we truly embrace the spirit of the season.

Schedule a tour today and relax this holiday season knowing that you'll kick off 2020 in the best workspace solution around!
