7 Ways To Prioritize Fitness And Health At Work

7-ways-prioritize-fitness-health-at-work

May is Global Employee Health and Fitness month! All too often, we are so wrapped up in our day-to-day that we forget to prioritize our well-being. This month is all about thinking of how we can elevate personal wellness. For the rest of the month, take time to assess your fitness and health practices and try to make changes that will permeate into all aspects of your life!

1. Fuel Your Body

Health and fitness start from within- and what you put into your body plays a key role. With an office job, it is easy to get into a routine of skipping meals due to a busy schedule. In reality, you need nutritious full meals to keep you sharp and satisfied throughout the day. No one wants to have a meeting with someone who is hangry! Read more about how you can eat better at work here.

2. Easy Workout Access

For many, the biggest barrier to working out is simply finding the time. Having an office space with easy access to a variety of fitness solutions is key. At AdvantEdge Workspaces, all clients have access to modern, on-site gym facilities. With two central locations, studios like Orange Theory and Core Power Yoga are just steps away! Now a great workout is at your fingertips.

3. Move Throughout the Day

There is a reason why smartwatches remind us to get up. Sitting all day is not healthy! It can be hard to give yourself a break when you’re on a roll at work. Instead of taking a long break, doing quick movements can still bring the same benefits of stretching your muscles and preventing pain (text neck, anyone?). Take a stroll down the corridor, stretch out on a yoga mat, or even complete ten jumping jacks. All movement is good movement throughout the workday!

4. Get Outside

Time outside of the workspace is key to staying healthy at work. Whether you're working out or sitting on a bench having coffee, fresh air is good for the soul. Click here to read more about how you can incorporate more outdoor time into the workday.

5. Take PTO

Time off policies exist for a reason- taking breaks is essential to recharging and being productive in your professional life. Don’t let your days expire this year! Schedule a long weekend, head to the beach for a week, or have a random Wednesday to yourself to get things done around the house. No matter what the reason, using paid time off will help keep you healthy and fresh at work.

6. Explore Health Benefits

Health benefits packages can be confusing. Audit your policy and ensure you are fully taking advantage of your plan. You may find that you can be reimbursed for classes, or that services such as a nutritionist are covered. In addition to staying on top of regular appointments, exploring your health benefits and advocating for what you need is essential.

7. A Supportive Community

You’ll be able to thrive when you are in a workspace community that has the same values. A workspace that prioritizes wellness understands how personal health and fitness translate to being able to focus better, do more, and increase productivity in the office.
