Did you know tomorrow is National Employee Appreciation Day? This day of recognition has been around for years, and while only semi-official, many companies use the first Friday of March to honor their workers. Employee appreciation could not come at a better time, after the shortest month of the year and the shininess of the new year has worn off. It’s not too late to make plans for tomorrow- here are four ways to celebrate National Employee Appreciation Day!
1. Old Fashioned Recognition
Regardless of how much you can get into the holiday, good old-fashioned recognition goes a long way and requires little advance work. Write out notes for each employee that you work with to express gratitude (and don’t forget personal touches). For those who prefer to be digital, use an e-card site to punch up a typical email. You can also share notes in a public forum, like creating a specific Slack channel.
2. Gifts
Who doesn’t love a gift? If you have time to shop, care packages with personalized touches, such as a favorite snack, are always a huge hit. Other options include branded company swag items, gift cards, flowers, or pre-packed gift baskets from sites like Cravebox or Harry & David.
3. Enhanced Work Perks
Work with what you’ve already got! Enhance existing benefits and perks for the day or even the entire month. Extend lunch breaks, offer more remote work days, do half-day Fridays, cater breakfast, pay for parking… the list goes on! Instead of looking for new gifts, make everyone’s work life easier with some increased perks to celebrate.
4. Hit the Town
Grab your team and take advantage of what your city has to offer! On the culinary front, go out to a nice lunch, indulge in a fun happy hour, or take a cocktail class. For more adventurous teams, do an activity such as a ropes course, laser tag, hiking, or a trampoline park. You’ll be surprised by how fun it is to connect with your team doing something different!
