How To Enjoy March Madness at Work

March Madness is back! Although the tournament may look a little different this year, there are still many ways you can indulge in the basketball spirit at work. Whether you are back in the office or keeping things virtual, March Madness is a great way to bring your team together through some friendly competition and festivities. Here are four ways to celebrate with your coworkers!

1. Place Bets

What is not to love about a little competition? Have everyone fill out a bracket online and create categories for different winners. These can range from serious (who actually wins) to the silly (best team mascot to make it to the end). Instead of betting cash, make the prizes work-friendly. Offer up a day off, a team lunch, or company swag. Your team will be able to celebrate March Madness and show off their workplace spirit at the same time.

2. Celebratory Lunches

While large parties are out of the question for now, grab-and-go or virtual lunches can still bring excitement to the team. For the elite eight, final four, all the way up to the championship, cater food or provide gift cards for employees to support local businesses while celebrating. Divide everyone into different groupings for each lunch so it is a time for team bonding as well.

3. Festive Work Breaks

Keeping up with all the games can be distracting throughout the workday. Allow everyone to clear their heads and refocus with a basketball-themed break. At AdvantEdge Workspaces, a basketball hoop is set up in the lounge so you can host a free-throw contest. Or, organize a team for quick pick-up games during lunch. Putting structure to breaks can encourage people to actually take a moment to relax.

4. Go Beyond the Court

Off the court, there is a lot to learn about basketball and the world of college sports. Host a documentary night each week and facilitate a discussion at lunch the next day. Or, get involved with your community and give back to a local organization that makes sports accessible to disadvantaged youth.

Sports bring people together. Finding out you share a favorite team with the guy from accounting can immediately spark an unexpected camaraderie! Whether through a friendly bracket competition or sharing details on a Slack channel about last night’s game, March Madness is a great way to get to know more people in your space. The more colleagues get to know each other, the better the chance they have of working well together. It’s a win-win!

Ready to bring your team together? Although AdvantEdge’s March Madness celebrations are not the same this year, we still strive every day to bring our clients together in unique ways. From virtual happy hours to caption writing contests, there are always new ways to connect. Come learn about why our spaces are so special today!
