Whatever your job may be, there is a good chance that you rely on your computer every single day to organize your work and communicate with colleagues and clients. At this point, our computers are so commonplace that many of us take them for granted, but it's important to think about our computers as a crucial resource and tool for expanding our knowledge and network and for efficiently completing projects at work.
Here are five quick and easy ways to make sure your computer is in great shape:
1. Clean up your hard drive.
There might be some old files and downloads that you don’t need anymore that are just taking up space. Having an overcrowded hard drive can make a huge impact on your computer’s processing ability and slow down your programs. Take few minutes to look through your hard drive for duplicate files and old or especially data-heavy files you no longer need.
2. Be smart about software.
The advance in device technology has been accompanied by major advances in software. Today, we have access to many great software options that can keep our computers clean by removing unnecessary data and protecting our devices from viruses. Just make sure you do your research, so you download the right software and not a virus or scam!
3. Defragment.
If you haven't defragmented before, you may not realize that this super useful function is already built-in to your computer! Some sort of defragmenter application is pretty standard among all computer systems and can optimize your hard drive to make sure your computer is working efficiently. Work smarter, not harder, and take advantage of the great tools your device already has to offer.
4. Surf Safely.
Be wary of what and where you click on the internet! Some unsecured websites and phishing emails can expose your systems to a virus. It seems like a lot of offers you see online are just too good to be true... so if it feels like it could be a scam, be very careful, because it probably is a scam.
5. Disk Cleanup Regularly.
Search for the ‘Disk Cleanup’ app in your system and try to run a cleanup once a week, it only takes you a minute but can make a huge impact in keeping your computer healthy. This is another function that is already built into your device, so won't require much effort on your end. Work smarter, not harder, and use the tools that are already in place to keep your computer healthy!
