Tired of endlessly scrolling on your phone during the workday? It is time to take better breaks at work- ones that nourish your body, mind, and spirit. Downtime throughout the workday is essential, but not all breaks are created equal. It is time to put down the phone and fully recharge. Here are five ideas for taking a better break at work!

1. Head Outside

Stop the scroll and head into the great outdoors! Fall is here and the cooler air is perfect for a stroll. Take a walk or sit on a bench while catching up with a friend or colleague. Changing scenery throughout the day and connecting with nature have invaluable benefits inside the office. And if you must scroll, at least do it in a park!

2. Tackle Personal To-Dos

Instead of waiting for the end of the day, take back your time after work by checking things off of your personal to-do list during the day. Set up appointments, catch up with a friend, or run an errand. Spending your breaks to work on some personal items will help give you more free time at the end of the day.

3. Move around

There are many studies on the benefits of standing desks and moving throughout the workday. Prioritize movement during the day by choosing a workspace designed for wellness. At AdvantEdge, clients can access gym facilities and the occasional in-house fitness class. Plus, with a range of private office space options, you have room to add the workout equipment of your choice, from yoga mats to a bike.

4. Read

We often think of reading as a way to wind down at the end of the day. However, bringing a book to work is an excellent way to sneak in a few chapters from 9-5. Pack a magazine, book, or kindle into your bag. Reading is also a great alternative to scrolling on a commute, for those who take public transit. Not sure where to start? Source recommendations from colleagues, check out the New York Times Bestseller list, or peruse these books that every entrepreneur needs

5. Refuel

Instead of reaching for whatever is convenient, refuel with the nutrients your body and mind need for snacks or lunch. Work in a space where you can easily store items from home or access multiple healthy options within walking distance. When better choices are at our fingertips, we are more inclined to make them.
