The Great Chair Debate: Optimizing Your Office Space

What is the most used item in our office space? The desk chair. Your desk chair is just a chair when you’re not sitting there, but once you take a seat, it becomes your home for the next 8 hours. With 86 percent of office workers reporting discomfort from their furniture and equipment, it is obvious that desk chairs matter when it comes to optimizing your office space. But with so many choices, how do you know which one is right for you?  Here are some of the best solutions for making your desk chair more like a welcoming!

-Herman Miller Aeron: This is our personal favorite, and is often featured in our executive office space. Its look is iconic (it even has a permanent exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art). The Aeron turned the chair world on its head by casting aside traditional foam cushioning, and combining sustainable ingredients into an ergonomic sitting place.

-Steelcase Leap: Imagine a sleeker, fully adjustable version of the traditional office chair and you’re picturing the Leap by Steelcase. Though its look is not a radical departure from your father’s desk chair, its customization and 98 percent recyclable make-up will surely take your office space to the next level.

-IKEA Markus: With a $199 price point, this better desk chair has great value for both your wallet and your office space. It comes in a variety of colors, there’s a leather option, and also offers good back support while enforcing proper posture.

-The Exercise Ball: If you’re truly brave, toss out the chair altogether and balance your way to better health on an exercise ball! Converting will ultimately help you have better alignment while you work, improve your circulation, and strengthen your core.
